‘I have a passion for music in many forms, but my first love is and always will be the Cello’

Elin studied music at Cardiff University, graduating with a Distinction in her Masters degree in Music Performance in 2017. She made the most of all the performance opportunities offered, her 3 years as Principal Cellist of the Symphony Orchestra saw her travel to European and Asian countries, performing her favourite orchestral works. Following her studies, the mountains of Eryri (nature being her second passion in life!) were calling her back to North Wales, and since 2018 this is where she calls home.

Elin is a performing and session cellist, teacher, workshop leader and music producer. Sharing music with others is her primary goal, whether this be through music performance or teaching. She is a passionate advocate for the democratisation of music, having first-hand seen the benefit of music in the lives of people from all walks of life.

In 2019 Elin constructed a purpose-built music studio in a barn on the isle of Anglesey. Here Elin has provided remote recording sessions for the BBC and composers including Lorne Balfe, Owain Llwyd, Adam Price, Matt Vucic, Brolly Brollyman, Owain Roberts, Oliver Wegmuller. She has also done live sessions for S4C, and artists including Dylan Morris, Ynys, Arfon Wyn, Eve Goodman and Sera. She also performs and manages the Brynafon String Quartet in addition to providing solo Cello performances.

Since becoming a tutor at the William Mathias Music Centre in 2018, Elin has been involved in many community-based projects. She is a music facilitator for both ‘Hidden Talents’ and ‘Discover The Song’ projects, providing music workshops for adults with learning disabilities. Other freelance project work include Ty Cerdd’s project ‘Bwthyn Sonig’- working with and enabling learning-disabled music-creators, ‘Llais Dyslecsia’ – a creative project to highlight the voices of children with dyslexia in the Welsh language and a Call for Action, and ‘Arts Together’ initiative in Denbighshire, working collaboratively with artist Judith Wood to provide creative workshops fusing art & craft with music to disenfranchised families.

Elin leads fun, bilingual workshops for young children ages between 6 months  – 7 years for ‘First Steps in Music’. In addition, she works as a peripatetic teacher for the Gwynedd & Môn Music Service providing tuition. In this role, Elin has provides 1-1 and whole-class tuition on string instruments.

Elin regularly gives solo cello concerts in hard to reach communities, residential homes and care homes, including Bryn Seiont in Caernarfon who specialise in dementia care. Her work with the local community is a real passion point as it is important to that her work as a musician reaches as many people as possible and brings them as much joy as it brings her.
